Cat found rabbit den in small fence in yard, keeping him inside until they move on.
Location: Ithaca, NY
Hi my cat brought me this baby bunny who was still alive and alert. I saw no puncture marks but I didn’t look extensively to avoid over handling. It’s eyes are not open yet but it has soft brown fur and was able to wobble around on its own after recovering from its ordeal. I made my cat drop it and put the cat inside, and then left the bunny for about ten minutes while I got gloves and a lined basket to put it in. By then it was crawling around again. Its hot here, so I placed the basket in the shade and after a bit of pawing around looking to burrow, the bunny got comfortable and took a nap. I dropped it off at a local wild life rehabber.
I let my cat out again and he took me right to the den. There was another baby dead outside of the hole :( I guess he got to first. In case there are more babies in the den, I’ll be keeping my cat indoors until they leave the den, but my question is when that might be?
