Ranma's original series eyes on remake Ranma.

That's it. Very quick edit lol 🤣 I was surprised... The eye dropper tool pulled from violet not cyan! I also pulled a little bitty hint of some of the other colors from his face in the original series.

Do you like the more silver eye Ranma or navy eyed?

Anyone else feeling like Ryoga is the best animated character in season 3 for some reason?

Cologne looks pretty good. Genma has some good shots. Ranma occasionally looks good. Akane seems inconsistent (sometimes very "moe" and sometimes not). But so many of Ryoga's shots I'm like:

Yep the form looks good

He looks ripped

Shadows and highlights look good

Face is sufficiently detailed

He looks age appropriate

Is it just me? Lol.

(Btw, I love Ryoga but for like... Over a decade girl Ranma and Akane are my beloved characters... So this isn't just character favoritism lol, it's something about the art style itself).

Gave the piece a background! Writing day today! Wish me luck 😭🥹

I struggle to like my own art.. sorry if you saw an older version—I just thought it needed a little more. Today I'm going to try to make myself finish the newest chapter of my Ranma fanfiction. I am always amazed by people who can stay on track with stories and release a chapter a week. My brain just can't focus on one task long enough. Other writers, how do you all stay on task to write?! Seriously, I need to know! 🤣

Anyone else super excited for the next episode of season 3? I really didn't like the remake in the beginning, honestly, but I think the art looks a lot better now than in previous seasons... Even though I still wish they would push girl Ranma's hair just a bit more red, and make Ranma a little more macho like the 90s... I'm glad we got Ryoga's hazel eyes back! 🐽✨ It seems like they've put a lot of effort this season into animating him well.

(The fanfiction this art is for is Metamorphosis: Blood and Amaryllis on Ao3.)

In praise of a good Ranma/Nabiki fanfic! Plus, other non RanKane fic recommendations? Please ✨

So I love RanKane ...a lot. But sometimes... I think it's fun to play around with other couple possibilities. I'll take anything you think is good: individual character studies, other pairings (don't even need to include either Ranma or Akane) and any configuration/orientation.

"A Moment's Notice" by Kandinsky_Lyric

Nabiki has always been one of those characters who really intrigued me... I just love her whole attitude, her control, her presentation. This particular fanfiction has a very eloquent writing "voice" in my opinion. It is adult in content (so fair warning on that) but the way Nabiki and Ranma interacted here, especially in the opening movement, actually inspired me some.

It's a short, completed work. Has drama and psychological realism.

The opening prose:

*Numbers.

Schedules.

Margins.

As long as Nabiki focused on those, everything would be fine. Numbers were logical. Numbers obeyed rules. Numbers, unlike people, didn’t make her heart race or send strange thoughts spiraling through her head at inconvenient moments.*

Akane Tendo fandom pet peeve

By now I have read multiple FanFictions and even seen posts in various places on the internet arguing this:

"Canon Akane is rejecting femininity"

I don't know where they get this argument, because in the original series she plainly doesn't.

She grows her hair out to imitate Kasumi to gain the affections of the man that she has a crush on - Dr Tofu. She's basically going: if I make myself more like her will he like me then?

This desire goes away as her early crush on Ranma develops. When her hair is accidentally cut, she reflects on why she grew it out in the first place. It's more of a romantic metamorphosis than anything.

She is a Takahashi girl through and through. Through very many of her works, women are feminine or want to be seen as feminine, but have something that gets in the way, that makes people think "they're not the right kind of girl."

Kasumi is basically an archetype for the ideal demure Japanese housewife of the times (in which the series was written, and earlier times it's referencing).

Akane is....

Romantic, earnest, hot tempered, stubborn, determined, girlish, loyal, proud, clumsy, easily embarrassed... She's even described in a sort of loving way by Ranma as "crybaby" at one point in the manga.

She wants to be good at domestic tasks, she just isn't naturally good at them. She sits around in her free time knitting/sewing for people: putting a cute little animal as a patch on clothing, a sweater for p-chan, a scarf for Ranma. She tries to bake and cook even though she's bad at it, her wardrobe is full of ruffles and bows and cute animals and pastel colors. In fact her JP voice actress went on an interview dressing like her one time LOL 🤣 if memory serves me the interviewer even pointed it out.

She's also athletic! She likes working out, and she can throw someone through a wall! This contrast is the character. I think it's fine if it's a head canon that has her rejecting femininity, but that's not what I'm commenting on LOL .. I'm commenting specifically on the fact that I have multiple times now seen people make the argument that in Canon she is rejecting it and this makes me sad because the characters actually quite girly and I like that about her!

Determination is probably her strongest trait if I had to pick one.
