(Adhering to a completely reasonable policy) “this is RIDICULOUS”

30 seconds after flipping the lights to ON I had to go rounds with a non-client about how I can’t fill in the payee line of this blank check (not drawn on us) that he handed to me, nor can I allow him to do it since his name isn’t on this check and he just told me that he’s not on that account. He insisted that it was fine because it was going into an account here (not his), and I insisted that it’s called altering/forging a check and we’re not doing that. He called it ridiculous but what’s even more ridiculous is the fact that I know he used to be in management for a completely different bank. 🙃*(screams in Monday)*

Does your institution charge a non-customer check cashing fee?

I work at the only large bank in a midsize town full of small local and regional banks. Some of these are *so local* that I have known people who worked directly under Mr. Bank Name. Evidently none of these banks charge fees for any reason at any time, which is obviously very cool and helpful, but the energy we receive for charging the non-client check cashing fee is so unhinged. It’s definitely top 3 things that I get the most threats about.

bankers are some of the least listened-to individuals in the world, imo.

Client: “I have some bonds, can I cash them in?”

Me: “are they series EE, E, I, and are they made payable directly to you?”

Client: “yes, these savings bonds are payable to me. I will see you soon.”

Narrator: in a shocking twist of fate, they were not payable to the client and he had to be turned away.

Do you feel overwhelmed by fraud and scams lately? Without going into specifics for obvious reasons, it seems like every single day we’re fighting some insane new fraud tactics—sometimes saving our clients from giving away TENS of THOUSANDS of dollars. Combine this with production pressure and staffing stress (alliteration not intended lol) it feels like my head is going to explode sometimes!!! I’ve been in this industry for 12 years and I have never seen fraud like this. Are you experiencing the same things in your branch? Please tell me I’m not in a little bubble here.
