Home lab

I upgraded my old laptop(Pavillion-2013-8GB RAM and 256GB SSD).

I am planning to learn FreeBSD. Do you recommend anything additional things for home lab setup? mainly additional hardware/accessories?

Our backend is going to be entirely in java(springboot). Front end is ready and they want some mock API etc till backend becomes ready. In go, there is gomock(now owned by Uber?) . Apart from it, any other http API mocking framework/library aware of ? Should be free/open source.
