Surely the US Navy is not going to redesign carriers to meet Trump's aesthetic

Apparently, not only does Trump not like electromagnetic catapults, he also thinks that a central island looks more carrier like than one towards the stern. Surely the Navy would not modify its designs to please the desires of someone totally ignorant on carrier design.

German saluting in WW2

I was watching the brilliant movie The Battle of Britian and noticed that Germans used the "Nazi" and the more normal salute interchangeably. Sometimes two officers standing side by side each doing a different version.

So, was there a rule about which salute to do when?

Firefly animated series

I hope firefly fans like this Instagram post from Nathan Fillion promoting a new firefly animated series.... I have been watching the posts that he and his costars have made over the past year with increasing interest, with no clue how they could accomplish this. Animated series makes so much sense. I'd prefer live action, but I'll take anything.

The French are deploying the Charles de Gaulle to the middle east. Could we do the same?

The French are sending a carrier to the middle east. Admittedly with Dutch and Italian support. But could the UK do the same? Hopefully with enough AA, ASW and logistic support to keep the carrier safe. To me, this conflict is exactly one of the scenarios the Queen class was designed for.

I suspect there is no way we could get a meaningful force off the Iranian coast in under 6 months (Thatcher is probably rolling in her grave).
