How do you know you're ready to go back to work?

I had my gallbladder removed on Monday. Because the stones were so big, and my gallbladder severely inflamed, and other factors, they kept me for 24hrs. I've been mostly sitting or laying in bed since then. I get up to use the restroom, take care of my cats, and eat.

However, I put in a grocery pickup order for this afternoon. Getting down to my car, driving, parking, waiting for my order, driving home, getting back to my apartment wiped me out. I had to rest before taking my little wagon back down to get my groceries. Then I had to rest in the driver's seat for a few minutes before going back up to my apartment.

I work a basic office job. No heavy lifting. Pretty sedentary. But I can see a problem getting from my apartment to the car and then from the parking garage to my office. And then back again at the end of the day.

I'm torn between toughing it out because of how sedentary I've been this last week or taking it easy another week (with maybe some short walks up and down the hallway to build stamina.)
