LA Fitness vs. YMCA in Cypress Hills — tried both
Been checking out the local gym options and figured I’d share my thoughts for anyone deciding between the YMCA and LA Fitness.
YMCA: Probably a 6.5/10 for me personally. It’s a smaller, tighter workout space with noticeably less cardio and weight equipment. They do have a pool and basketball court, which is great, although both seem pretty heavily used whenever I’m there.
The big advantage is the community aspect. It feels much more connected to Cypress Hills, and I’m sure there are a bunch of programs/classes I haven’t explored yet. It’s also right next to Highland Park, which is a huge plus. Lots of people running there in the mornings, tons of grass/open space, and honestly just a really nice area to start or finish a workout.
LA Fitness: Better if your main priority is actually working out. Bigger, cleaner, way more weights/cardio equipment, and I thought the pool was nicer too. It’s also pretty convenient if you drive or bike. It’s in the shopping plaza off Conduit, so there’s covered parking plus food and other stuff nearby.
Neither location strikes me as particularly convenient by train, though. They both feel like gyms primarily serving people who already live around here. 7.5/10
Right now I’m leaning LA Fitness for the gym itself, YMCA for community/location.
Curious what other people in the area use. Am I missing another good gym nearby?
