Did anyone go to Murrieta’s State of the City on Wednesday?

Just wondering if they mentioned anything new about the Murrieta Triangle / Shops at the Triangle project. Haven’t really seen any updates on it lately and was curious if the city said anything about when it might actually move forward or what’s planned there.

Would anyone else want to see the old Temecula-Murrieta train brought back?

So I went down a rabbit hole looking at old Temecula history and found out there used to be a railroad connecting Temecula and Murrieta.

Apparently you could actually take a train between the two towns back in the day, and now I can’t stop thinking about how cool it would be if we brought something like that back.

Not as Metrolink or anything. I mean an actual old fashioned tourist train that goes from Old Town Temecula to Old Town Murrieta.

I have kids and I know they would absolutely love something like this. Honestly I would too lol. You could take the kids to Old Town, get on the train, ride up to Murrieta, walk around and get something to eat, then ride it back. They could do Christmas rides, Halloween rides, field trips, stuff like that.

And the coolest part to me is that it wouldn’t just be some random tourist attraction. There really WAS a train here. It would be bringing back part of the valley’s history.

I know the tracks are long gone and I’m sure there are a million reasons why this would be difficult. I don’t know who owns the old route now or if parts of it have been built over. I’m not pretending I know what it would cost either.

I’m just wondering if it’s actually impossible or if it’s one of those things nobody has seriously tried to do.

Would you guys ride this if it existed?

Especially curious if anyone here knows the history of the old railroad or knows what happened to the original route between Temecula and Murrieta.

If a lot of people actually like the idea, maybe it’s something worth bringing up to both cities and seeing if they’d at least look into it.

What’s one thing other cities our size have that Temecula is still missing?

Not talking about unrealistic stuff like Disneyland or a pro sports team, just something that could realistically happen.

Examples:

>A regional aquatics center
>A public food hall
>A large outdoor concert venue
>An indoor entertainment complex
>More rooftop restaurants and bars
>A Topgolf
>More high-paying employers so fewer people have to commute

“Unforeseen circumstances” isn’t an explanation

Just saw that the Murrieta Hot Springs widening project and the Alta Murrieta turn lane project have been delayed because of “unforeseen circumstances.”

Seriously?

Many of us deal with traffic on Murrieta Hot Springs Road every day. These projects have been talked about for years and now they’re delayed indefinitely and that’s the explanation we get?

If it’s a funding problem, say that. If it’s utilities, permits, contractor issues, whatever, just tell people what’s going on.

Stuff gets delayed. I get it. What I don’t get is announcing a delay and giving residents basically no information.

Does anyone know what the actual issue is?

What’s the latest on the 7-story resort planned for Old Town?

I remember hearing it got approved a while back, but I haven’t seen any construction or heard much about it since. Is it still happening, delayed, tied up in permits, or what?

Just curious if anyone’s seen recent updates or knows what’s going on with it.

How much bigger does Temecula Valley have to get before French Valley gets commercial flights?

Maybe I’m missing something, but this has never made sense to me.

Palomar in Carlsbad has commercial flights now, and from what I understand they’re adding more. Meanwhile Temecula, Murrieta, Menifee, Wildomar, etc. have exploded in population and we still have to drive to San Diego, Ontario, John Wayne, or Palm Springs to catch a flight.

It feels like we’re in this weird airport dead zone where none of the major airports are actually close.

French Valley already exists, so I’m not talking about building a brand new airport from scratch. But at what point does it make sense to have at least a few commercial flights out of there?

Is the issue that airlines don’t think there’s enough demand? Infrastructure? Politics? Noise complaints?

Genuinely curious because it seems like there are more than enough people living here now to support something.

Am I crazy or is this area kind of unusual for how big it is?

Like we’re pushing 500k people if you include Temecula, Murrieta, and Menifee, but it still feels like there isn’t much of a local white collar job base.

Most people I know either commute to San Diego or Irvine or work remote. And those commutes are what, 60–70 miles and easily 1.5+ hours with traffic?

I get that a lot of suburbs are commuter heavy, but usually places this big either have their own job center or are a lot closer and better connected. Here it’s kind of neither.

Not trying to hate on the area, I live here, just trying to understand it.
