Rent car from hotel?

Coming out for a visit and am going to do one day at red rocks canyon. It seems like our best option is to rent a car for a day so we don't have to deal with Ubers/bad reception. We're staying at the Paris hotel. Is there any drawbacks to going through their rental system, can you reserve in advance, how far ahead do you need to reserve?

Thanks!

SIM card spiral

I think my husband and I are anxiety spiraling about sim cards while on the WHW, so just checking in with the masses to see if we're crazy or what.

We want data, text messages to home, and we want to be able to call places for emergencies/unexpected situations. So we don't need to pay the Verizon travel pass. esim for data seems like the logical choice since we can use things like signal. But in terms of the phone calls (e.g. if we are arriving to a site or dinner reservation late and need to let them know)... Should we rely on using wifi when possible, Google voice, something else?

We are clearly spiraling with only seven days to go, and just aren't seeing a lot out there for the best plan of action.

Travel at beginning and end of trip (Edinburgh)

Couple of transportation questions. We are flying in and out of Edinburgh and spending 1 day before the hike and 1 day after the hike exploring Edinburgh. It looks like the bus or train is our best bet for getting to Milgavie and either the train or Ember bus to get from Fort Williams to Edinburgh. This seem accurate? Is it necessary to book these in advance or can I do them day of?

Uber/Lyft or taxis, is there one preferred over the other? If we need a taxi or Uber while exploring Edinburgh is it pretty easy to get ? I know that's not a WHW specific question, just the bookends to the hike! Thanks!
