Matt Reeves stepping away from The Batman Part II for a family matter is bigger than a movie, and some of the reactions are a bad look

Filming on The Batman Part II has been paused while Matt Reeves deals with a family matter. DC Studios says he has their full support and they plan to pick it back up soon. No details, no timeline, and none of us are owed any.
I've been reading the comments, and some of them are honestly kind of depressing. "Another delay??" "At this rate we'll get it in 2035." "Just hand it to someone else."

Come on!

This is a real person with a family going through something serious enough to stop a major movie in the middle of filming. You don't press pause on a production this size lightly. Hundreds of crew members, the actors, and everyone around Reeves are affected too. Whatever he's dealing with, it's happening to his family or himself! Other humans, not to a release schedule.

A movie can wait. Family stuff can't. If you had a loved one going through something serious, would you want your boss, or millions of strangers online, complaining that you weren't at work?

I love Batman too. I loved The Batman, and I'm excited for the sequel! But if your first reaction to "a man is dealing with a family emergency" is being mad your favorite character's sequel isn't coming out fast enough, it might be time to step back. I think it says a lot about how little sympathy we have for each other now, especially online, where creators feel more like content machines and we forget that they’re human beings.

Reeves made one of the best comic book movies in years because he takes his time and cares about the work. Let him take the time he needs for the people he cares about. The Batman will still be there.

Wishing him and his family the best. 🦇
