PSO Handgun Prop

Just finished up another prop - the basic Handgun. Follows the same principle as my Daggers with a mode button to change color/rarity, but incorporates a trigger for regular blasts and "charged" blasts if you hold it down. Runs on an Adafruit RP2040 Prop Maker (will likely modify and rerelease to use my Photon Drop interface board with XIAO microcontrollers, but that's gonna be a future state project) with two Neopixel lines (one 8-LED line and one single LED puck), an 8 Ohm speaker for sound, and a 500mAh rechargeable battery. And FYI - this was all designed without AI assistance 😉.

STLs are on MakerWorld: https://makerworld.com/models/3421575?appSharePlatform=copy

Code and Instructions are on my Github: https://github.com/wanamaa/PSOHandgunPropMaker. It will direct you to the Instructables page and the Arduino library repo needed for the lights and sounds.

A note on the future projects (this video was already slapped together a month ago when I thought it was ready to release):

The Photon Drop PCAs have arrived and are going through testing. I only have a batch of 3 at the moment, but once I know the design is completely sound, I'll make the Github public and order some more to have on hand

Dagger redesign is next on my docket after the Rare Box is buttoned up (printing a hinged version now, should have that ready to update in the next couple of days).

The teaser project at the end is probably 75% done - electronics and code and done, just working on physical fit now. Trying to target this one being done at the end of the month.

3D printed PSO Daggers

Juat found this Reddit group and KNEW I had to share this 😁

I've been a fan of PSO since the Dreamcast days, tying up my parent's phone line for HOURS. My main was always a RAmar, but I had a couple Hunters I'd play every now and again. One weapon set that always intrigued me was the dagger.

Got a 3D printer about 4 years ago and started making lighted props, and I thought "huh...it'd be cool to make a set of PSO daggers." The more I got into modeling with Fusion 360, the louder that itch got — but my modeling skills weren't quite up to sculpting that curved blade from scratch, and I wasn't about to sink months into it.

AI modeling finally got good enough to get me a base I could actually work with, and once I had that, I was off to the races. Cleaned it up, split it for printing, wired it up with an RP2040 and a WS2812B strip for color-cycling and rainbow breathing modes, and here we are - my first prototype! Got some update microcontrollers on order to add gyro detection for sounds when swinging. Looking forward to sharing that update in the next couple of weeks!

20 years of wanting these. Worth the wait.
