removal now requires surgery

(25F)i recently posted about how it’s taken multiple attempts to remove my implant but the process is now going to take even longer. 3rd attempt happened on tuesday and i’m now being referred to a surgeon. i’m so upset that this has become such a situation considering i just started a new job and i start school this coming week (nursing pre-reqs, at that). i’ve done some searching around the sub to see if anyone else has had to undergo surgery for this and, understandably, did not find much.

if some of you have had to be put under anesthesia to get this thing out, i’d love to know how your experience went and what the healing process was like! i’ve had surgery before so i’m
not necessarily scared but those procedures were common so recovery was easy information to find online.

thank you!

getting this thing out has been miserable

i’ve been on nexplanon for 9 years, i decided to get it out to go back to the pill. scheduled my appointment for tuesday, got rescheduled for wednesday, no problem.

one provider tried but she was struggling to find the end so she called in another doctor. the second doctor made another incision and ALSO couldn’t find the end of the implant. they brought me to a separate room to do an ultrasound to see if they could find it but compared to the lines in my muscle, it didn’t give any clarity. eventually i was sent to a totally separate facility to get x-rays done with a physical paper copy of the orders. turns out the orders didn’t have the right wording so i sat in the lobby for 45 minutes for literally nothing.

cut to thursday, back at the x-ray office with the corrected orders, takes 5 minutes and i walk out with a disc with the images on it. i drive back over to the clinic to hand it over. i didn’t get a message until friday that they couldn’t see the images so they had to do the formal request blah blah blah. i am so sick of this. i now i have two holes in my arm, the steristrips have already fallen off because the blood ruined any sort of adhesive on them, covered them with a big bandaid for now. also used some more medical tape to keep it water tight for showering and i had an allergic reaction to the adhesives.

i am losing my marbles about this i am so irritated. god i just want this thing out and my arm hurts so bad.

had the appointment to get it out..

walked out of the clinic with an intact implant and two big holes in my arm. apparently the last provider implanted it too deep or it may have migrated a little. got some x-rays done so hopefully i will get a call tomorrow about scheduling another appointment with a different game plan. worst part is that i start a new job next week so i have no clue when i’ll actually get it out. i planned it all out during my week off between jobs where i can recover but oh well. manifesting my nexplanon-free life soon!

Titrating down to get off

25F 5’7 SW: 178 CW: 155 GW:140-145
Pretty self-explanatory. I know this is a life-long med for a lot of people and I am happy this is available for them but I just can’t do it anymore. I just took shot 13 (5mg) two days ago and I’m realizing that the major anxiety, low bouts of energy, and general disinterest in things is probably due to Tirz. I’ve lost 23ish pounds since March 28th and it’s been an actual godsend but the mental side effects aren’t worth it anymore.

Considering I start a new, much more stressful job in the next couple of weeks and I’m getting my birth control implant removed (not trying to conceive), I think it’s best to see how my body reacts to just being itself. I feel that I’ve built some good eating habits and I’m consistent about working out 2-3 times a week. If some weight comes back, oh well. I’d rather gain some weight and have energy than be miserable and skinny. I think getting off will motivate me anyways since I enjoy being the size I am now even being 10lbs away from my goal weight. Luckily, I didn’t replace my whole wardrobe.

EDIT: A common side effect of removing the Nexplanon birth control is weight loss. I ballooned a little when I got on it in high school 9 years ago but it stayed consistent 165-175 once I got into my 20’s. Worried about losing too much too fast on top of my hormones going haywire.

Removal in two weeks!

I wasn’t sure what flair to use but I started Nexplanon back in 2017 when I was 16 years old. I’m now nearing the end of my 3rd one at 25 and getting it removed two weeks from today. First time in 9 years that I will be birth control-free and I’m looking forward to seeing how my body reacts. I initially started due to irregular and super painful periods.

I was one of the lucky ones who went 7-8 years without a period but within the last 8 months, I’ve been bleeding every 2-3 weeks for like 8 days at a time with major cramping. Went through the rigmarole with my PCP to find a cause and nothing came up. Decided I’ll just see how my body adjusts and goes from there. Maybe I’ll start on the mini pill in a few months. Not interested in having kids any time soon so partner and I have agreed to abstain or stick to condoms. I can’t wait to see what’s in store, good or bad.

Hopefully I can remember to document day-to-day if anyone’s interested!
