Lumen⚡: The Art of cracking GDs, Technical and HR Interviews

Lumen⚡: The Art of cracking GDs, Technical and HR Interviews

If there's a GD round, the first person who starts the discussion is almost guaranteed to be selected, it is a competition, don't wait for others to speak or start the conversation, don't be a guy who waits to give everyone the chance to speak, it's your time to outshine, remember it is group discussion not debate, not fight on opposite points, just give your point of view. Remember you should be the first to speak and the one to summarise in the end.

GD, Technical and HR interviews all mostly happen on the same day, be prepared, have a well ironed shirt, pants and a blazer, blazer is not mandatory but will help you have better fiest impression, not loose not right, just exact fit. Leather shoes too, no sports shoes.

Once you pass GD, enter the tech interview panel room with a huge smile on your face, don't show you're scared even though you're. Prepare a solid introduction, like really really good with hooks or they'll be bored in just few seconds.

There will be pen and paper on the table, use that to explain all your answers, don't just speak, leaves better impression. If you don't know the answer fully, don't waste time looking at the ceiling fan, pick the pen and paper and explain whatever you know about the said question and then say "this specific part I'm not able to recall but I'll definitely look into this soon as the interview is over". Answer all questions with smiling face, don't show fear, don't stutter or use fillers. Always think of edge cases, if you know the answer, it's your time to shine, explain it so deeply that the interviewer is impressed.

For HR interview always be fully prepared with readymade answers, ask chatgpt for top 50 HR round questions in a tech job. Don't oversell yourself, don't undersell either. Use STAR method of answering questions: Situation Task Action Result. Read about this method on ChatGPT. Stick to this format. Thoroughly research about the company, it's ceo, operations etc etc, when asked do you've any questions, always ask some question, preferably about team work, how can I contribute the most to the team etc etc. Read the room, a firm handshake at the end is sign that Interview went well but this isn't a fixed rule. Be calm while answering, don't speak too fast or slow.

How much important is DSA in campus placements & how to practice it?

Lumen⚡ here <2026 passout>

General misconception is that DSA is needed only for high CTC companies but no, even for 5 LPA companies you need good level of DSA practice.

I'm placed in Super Dream (10-20 LPA) to add credibility to my advice.

I've followed Strivers sheet and got placed, but many of my friends used neetcode sheet and got similar results. However I'll speak only for strivers as I've used it first hand.

Here's the link of that sheet, no need to pay for premium, I used the free version: https://takeuforward.org/dsa/strivers-a2z-sheet-learn-dsa-a-to-z

If you cover these topics, you'll be prepared for almost 80-85% of companies. Ofcourse complete the sheet fully if you've time (you're in first or second year).

Patterns, Arrays, Strings, DP, Greedy, Linkedlist, stacks and Queues.

Programming language doesn't matter, I used C++. Many of my friends used java or python and got similar results. Java is however considered a gold standard, but nothing that'll make or break your interview.

Why DSA is important?

The first round itself is online test which will more often than not happen in KTR labs under super strict supervision, nil chances of cheating, if you're caught then you'll be permanently banned from placements, no exceptions.

In that round 90% or times you'll see DSA questions and you'll have to solve them, only after you clear the test then you'll be called for interviews by the company's respective interview panels, even there they'll ask some DSA but more focus will be on your projects. So even if you're GOD in development skills, who'll show it to if you don't even reach interview round?

All the best juniors, don't procrastinate delay your dsa practice, atleast solve 2 questions per day.

Wondering when placement starts? Ends? Before which month you should target to be placed?

Lumen⚡ < 2026 passout batch > here, the following is the actual placement timeline in SRM. I'm placed in the super dream to add credibility to my advice.

Placements starts mid 5th semester, for 5th and 6th semester most companies will come for regular intern roles, i.e. without full time conversion promise.

Placement peaks in the mid to end of the 7th semester, just make sure you're placed before Diwali, most top companies come before it.

Some good companies do come in the 8th semester, but rarely. Most are for sales roles. You really don't want to be there.

Whatever cgpa target you have in mind, make sure you achieve it by the 6th semester. As cgpa till 6th semester is used in placements.

(For 10th, 12th scores and their importance, read my other post).

General CGPA rule:

Above 9.5 should be the target to get most preference in shortlisting, especially in those early months where less number of companies are visiting.

Between 9 and 9.5 is decent, but thousands in SRM have that.

Between 8 and 9 is not a good CGPA, you'll face lots of trouble in getting shortlisted.

Between 7 and 8 is .............. Just don't be there.

Are there outliers? Someone in 7-8 cgpa range getting good placement? Yes? But exception is not a rule, technically you can crack google even without B. Tech degree, is it advisable? No, right? The same thing applies here.

Don't get arrears or any kind of malpractices in your name, it negatively impacts placements.

⚡⚡⚡ DON'T FORGET TO UPVOTE if you're helped so that my post reaches out to more people and therefore everyone is helped as a result. ⚡⚡⚡
