How to preserve / dye chicken feet?

Soooo I want “crow’s feet” decorations and jewelry. But my understanding is crows are covered by the MBTA (my location: OREGON, US). Also butchered bird feet are easy to come by and crow feet are not.

I thought I’d paint chicken feet black and no one would know the difference unless they are wicked nerds, in which case they’ll understand why they aren’t actually from corvids. And I’m not trying to sell them, just wear / decorate with them and give as gifts. So that’s the goal.

But in another sub I got told chicken feet have a lot of subdermal fat and will rot. They suggested quail feet for this project instead. I haven’t figured out where to get those but I’m working on it.

I’m looking for any other info / ideas / suggestions to achieve my art goal of “crows’ feet” without breaking any laws.

Should I let a medical bill go to collections?

I'm in a dumb situation with labcorp for labs that were drawn in March. Labs were drawn in my Dr office and sent to labcorp. Bill is $490.

Dr ordered the labs and booked me a blood draw appt in her office. I said I was worried about the cost. She said I could do them through a special program through Quest (anticipated charges $109), I said great.

Dr did not clearly communicate to me that I had to *go to* Quest on my own *instead* of showing up at the blood draw appointment she had scheduled for me in her office. Because I didn't understand that I went to the appointment she scheduled in her office, had the draw, and her office sent the labs off to labcorp, and the bill is $490.

I am *pissed* but the Dr office says that me coming in for the draw is implied consent for them to send the blood to labcorp (their normal procedure) and that it's my fault I didn't cancel the appointment and go make myself a different appt with Quest if that is what I wanted.

So Dr office won't help me. Labcorp is unwilling to negotiate the price. It's under $500 so if I let it go to collections and then offer to settle when the collector calls me, I can probably get away with paying way less than $490, right?

Are there flaws in this plan? Things I need to watch out for? Steps I need to make sure I take? I have never had to deal with a collections agency before and I am pretty nervous, but I'm also pissed and don't want to give labcorp almost five hundred bucks when Quest was going to run the exact same set of tests for $109.
