Are pool-shops a scam?

I say this loosely - and I do not mean every single pool shop but........

There are two pieces of advice I often see when it comes to pool management in this forum and others:

  1. Never use test strips if you want accurate results
  2. Go to your local pool shop and have them test your water

Every time I am in my local pool shop (and another, and another and another) - I see people bring their water in for testing. Then the pool shop pulls out the test strips (often the same ones I have used in the past) - test the water - then diagnose a ton of chemicals......

So are these test strips useful or not?

Or.....are all the pool shops I visit just doing it wrong?

Curious to hear!

SLAM Help - measuring along the way

Hi All,
Returned to my property, realised the chlorinator was not chlorinating - for 4 months.
So, now I have something that resembles the reflecting pool in DC 😃

Done all the steps (PH, checked my CYA etc). And so, I need to get up to FC 20 to slam my pool. I've just poured in my first bucket of chlorine for my pool size.

Ive also realised.... I don't have a full bottle of reagent for my FC test (I use a Taylor FAS-DPD) kit. So, I'm slightly concerned I can't run a full test (because checking for FC20 uses a lot of reagent!!). Reagent isn't so readily available her ein Spain (I've ordered, but it will take some days).

Any suggestions?

thanks!

About to lose platinum

hi all,

Im at 195xp. got a flight this weekend. with SAF and the flight. it will get me to 216xp

then. end of June it resets.

shall I just let it reset, or should I consume all my miles to pay for the additional xp needed for platinum? (this would just be second year).

im failing to see the true benefits. but wanted to hear others thoughts (or ‘cheaper’ way to get more xp in 5 days 😭🤣)

thanks.

Conti GP5000 TR S - Tubeless - Constant punctures

Hello,

I switched from GP5000 'normal - to the S version.
I went from 28 /25 to 32/28.
I keep getting punctures - I'm tubeless
99kg, running 60 and 58psi (such a range across all pressure calculators - settled for this. This is lower when punctures first started).
Been tubeless for 3yrs, no issues with prev tyres

The kicker - I placed a tube, got immediate puncture.

I think (not had opportunity to fully check) that maybe something internal /spoke /rim tape /something - must be causing the punctures? Would this also cause punctures when on the tubeless however?

I've also tried a few diff sealants. Muc-Off, BBB Dynamic Barkeeper.

I've a race in 10 days.

I'm not quite sure what to do - I've too many variables I don't knwo what's causing it. It's happening across both wheels.

Would love any solid insight or advice.
thanks.
