Early puberty?

Early puberty?

Has anyone’s else’s goldie had an early puberty/ adolescence? Hector is 5 months old tomorrow, from working lines, and with us since 9 weeks. This morning he cocked his leg and marked on most of the patches of other dogs wee we saw. He has also started really ramping up the demand barking and just flat out switching his ears off when we ask anything of him, plus oh the humping. He’s gone from being good mannered, walking on a loose lead on a flat collar, responding to the whistle for recall and a stop whistle, to being bolshy and pushy and occasionally looking when he hears the whistle but not giving a damn about it.

Training wise we’re going back to basics and working on steadiness, impulse control and manners, and we’re ok there but can it be puberty this early? He’s seeing the vet next week anyway so I’ll check in with them but has anyone else’s started this early? Or is it not puberty at all and we have all that to come on top of this?!

Picture because he really is the cutest swamp rat

5 weeks of Hector

Our new(ish) boy, I have been waiting for him since my childhood summers spent in Ireland with my aunts working golden as my best friend and he is everything I hoped. I cannot get over how clever he is and how quickly he’s growing. My last puppy was a wonderful wonderful lurcher and this has just been a totally different experience but god he’s brilliant
