Gastritis/ Anxiety
I’m (25F) looking to vent/get other peoples take on what’s been happening for me.
July 4th weekend I started experiencing severe stomach pain under my rib cage and the center of my ribs, heartburn, nausea, indigestion, bloating, feeling weak and almost out of it, and back and arm pain. I went to the doctor and they suspected either gastritis or a stomach ulcer but put me on omeprazole, mylanta, and famotidine. I took the medications for 3 weeks like recommended and then tapered off, but all symptoms returned within a few days. I started the medications again and then a week later I got an endoscopy confirming gastritis. I also have had ulcerative colitis for 10 years now a take Humira to treat it. I’m in remission for the u/c with occasional flare ups.
The symptoms the first time around were so severe I thought I was having a heart attack. This time around the symptoms have started to resolve with the medication, but I still am nauseous, no appetite, and my anxiety is extremely high. It’s gotten to a point where I can’t even drive a car because I get so nauseous and then start to have a panic attack. This is abnormal for me, I’m a good driver and normally the go to person when it comes to going out. The anxiety isn’t in direct relation to eating like I’ve seen other people, i haven’t lost an absurd amount of weight since the beginning of July, approx 10lbs. I currently am 5ft at 120lbs.
The doctor is having me take 20mg omeprazole 2x a day, and take famotidine as needed in the middle of the day. My current symptoms are anxiety, nausea, sour mouth, back pain, and arm pain.
He just prescribed Mirtazapine that I am anxious to take. I’ve read it makes you a zombie, eat an absurd amount, and makes you feel out of it and dizzy. He wants to start me at 15mg at night. My question - has this helped people? Has anyone else experienced this increase in generalized anxiety? Did the combination of the mirtazapine and omeprazole help heal your gut? Looking for any and all insight.
