K-On Omnibus

Just acquired from the kinokuniya pop up shop in downtown SF. Only one on the shelf at the time.

Izu Oshima

I was looking over the tourist information for Oshima and from their website town.oshima.tokyo.jp I learned some interesting things:

  1. The ferry departs from one of two ports (Motomachi & Okada) depending on the seas that day. You can also fly there in a turbo-prop plane. Fun either way.
  2. You can rent a Honda Super Cub from rentalcycletoi.amebaownd.com and tour the island just like Ai & Hikaru.
  3. It's an active volcano - last significant eruption was in 1986 which caused the evacuation of 12,000 people and had lava fountains 1600 meters high. It's on a 30-40 year cycle, I'll let you do the math. (www.volcanodiscovery.com/oshima-eruptions.html

Anyway, I spent several hours the other night pursuing the websites of all the things you can do on the island and on my next trip to Japan, I'm going to try to include the it for a couple of days. Assuming the volcano isn't erupting of course.
