Will I be safe living next to Berri-UQAM? Or should I consider finding another apartment?
I (25F) am moving to Montreal from Toronto for graduate school. I got a really awesome deal on a 1 bedroom apartment, which itself I love! The unit is spacious, great amenities, private courtyard, etc. The proximity to campus / everything generally is wonderful.
The one downside is that I live close to Berri-UQAM, and have seen lots of homeless people / drug addicts perusing the streets and a surprising amount of garbage everywhere.
To say I’m a bit worried is an understatement. Is this something serious enough to justify transferring my lease? I expect to be coming home late some nights (around 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.) and will likely be using Berri–UQAM station.
As someone who comes from a city, I’m wondering if this is just part of city living or if it’s something I should genuinely be concerned about. Thank you!!!
