My father passed away unexpectedly a few days ago.

Unfortunately, as far as I am aware, he passed away without a will. My brother and I are his only next of kin (brother has been estranged from family for the past few years so that further complicates things) and I have absolutely no clue how to proceed from here.

My in-laws have urged me to find an attorney to help deal with this as he had a lot of assets. I am based in CT, and so my go-to lawyer is unable to assist in the matter and I have no clue where to even start.

Would anyone have any recommendations or past experiences they could share? Thank you

Does anyone have any recommendations for good swimming/bathing spots in southwest CT? Lakes, creeks, anything that's not the shore goes. Preferably a place that doesn't require a permit.
