Telescoping cane/walking stick- carryon or check?
Hello! Quick question. I use a rollator, which I’ll be bringing with me. For the plane I was going to bring a telescoping cane/walking stick for using the bathroom and if possible doing short walks in the aisle (I booked an aisle seat). The head swivels so it can be used either way, it has a cane rubber tip. One of my disabilities is I have an inner ear immune condition that means I need support getting around and I can’t exactly use the rollator onboard. And I don’t really want to be grabbing seat backs to steady me, that’s rude. See pics.
It’s 18” closed, 43” fully extended with handle in walking stick position. I just realized last night while laying in bed going through things in my head that this might be considered a potential weapon - in the wrong hands, at least. Not mine, but y’all don’t know that I go into fawn and freeze if there’s any issues. Totally non-confrontational.
Anyway, should I just either keep the handle in cane position (it’s an uncomfortable handle that way) or go without and put it in my checked bag? There’s a chance I may have to depend on it at some point during my upcoming trip. I’m still trying to navigate what assistance I requested through the airline and whether I need to bother TSA Cares. Which I need to figure out asap. Thank you in advance!
