The family takes Kourtney’s boundaries as personal attacks
I’m rewatching KUWTK and after I’ve done many watchings of all the fights, I’ve come to my own conclusion: The family, especially Kim, takes Kourtney’s boundaries as personal attacks. And here is my take:
In the later seasons of KUWTK we started seeing intense conflicts in the show that we hadn’t really seen before. And what’s interesting to me is that so many of the major fights somehow always revolved around Kourtney, her boundaries, how much she wanted to work, how much she wanted to film, how she wanted to spend her time and etc.
But the more I watch it, the more I feel like the real issue wasn’t simply that Kourtney had “changed.” It was that her family, and especially Kim started taking her boundaries as personal attacks. Kourtney saying “I don’t want to film this much,” or “I don’t want to work this way,” IS a boundary. It isn’t an attack on Kim. It isn’t Kourtney saying Kim is a bad person. It isn’t even necessarily about Kim at all. But instead of accepting that Kourtney had different priorities, Kim seemed to interpret it as Kourtney not caring enough about the family, not working hard enough or somehow disrespecting everyone else. And that’s where I think the resentment from Kim really started building.
What also bothers me about the Kim vs Kourtney fights is how quickly the arguments would stop being about the original issue and turn into personal attacks against Kourtney. Kim would bring up things like Kourtney being the “least exciting to look at”, her problems with keeping a nanny or other things that had absolutely nothing to do with whatever they were originally arguing about.
And THAT is why I don’t buy the idea that these fights were simply Kourtney being difficult and Kim “standing up for herself.” Because there’s a difference between saying “what you’re doing hurts my feelings” vs “here are all the things im gonna use to insult you bitch”. And Kim saying that Kourtney had treated her badly before so now she was just doing the same thing back to her completely changes the narrative. Suddenly, Kourtney becomes the villain and Kim becomes the person who is simply defending herself, when, from what I’m seeing, Kourtney’s boundaries and reluctance to participate were repeatedly being treated as attacks, while Kim was the one escalating the arguments into a more personal territory.
Obviously this is only what I’m seeing and I don’t know them personally but yeah, it’s my take. What do you guys think? I have other things that I want to point out too but It would take forever to write…
