Erza of Dedheim from Kingdom Death

My take on Erza of Dedheim, a classic model from Kingdom Death Monster. Really struggled with skin tones on this one and considered stripping and repriming at several points. CC welcome!

Erza of Dedheim

My take on a classic KDM piece. Still a lot to learn. I went with a fairly non traditional color scheme just to try something different. all in all was very fun to paint!

Skin process for summer archivist

Here‘s how I did the skin tones for this mini. Please let me know if you have suggestions for how to improve, I’m still tinkering with the process and trying new things

I only used 5 paints for the skin tones:

Vallejo royal purple, Vallejo rose brown, army painter dorado skin, Vallejo off white, and army painter familiar pink speedpaint 2.0

  1. Prime black and take pictures with desired light source. The primer I use has a satin finish which seems perfect for slightly shiny skin
  2. Airbrush base coat royal purple a couple thin layers. Airbrush a couple layers of 50-50 royal purple with rose brown, leaving only the deepest shadows purple
  3. Roughly sketch in the highlights with a brush with rose brown, aiming for covering maybe 50% of the previous layer
  4. Airbrush a layer of rose brown to smooth the edges
  5. Back to the brush to sketch highlights in smaller and smaller areas with 50-50 rose brown and dorado skin, then dorado skin
  6. Using a brush, refine all the highlight blends, I use fat glazes and wet blends a lot
  7. Airbrush 50-50 or 40-60 familiar pink speedpaint with thinner to add color depth, saturation and visual interest especially to the shadow areas and parts of the body that are exposed to more wear and tear (e.g. wrists, knees). I like to add a glaze of red or pink to the cheeks
  8. Use 50-50 off white and dorado skin just for the highest highlights
  9. Paint the rest of the mini

Let me know if you have any suggestions, I’m still trying to improve

Kingdom Death Monster set of Survivors of Death 1

Finally finished up this set of 4 survivors from Survivors of Death 1, and expansion for Kingdom Death Monster. I like how they correspond to classic board game colors of red, green, blue and yellow. I learned a lot painting this set, and personally think Blue turned out the best but required probably double the time investment of the others. The NMM on the sword was particularly fun. The latest one, green, I tried to paint in a more freeform sketching kind of way rather than blocking out color by color like I usually do, and it turned out ok

Thanks for looking, I appreciate any feedback as I’m always trying to improve.

Investment Sniper from Kingdom Death Monster

Investment Sniper mini from Kingdom Death Monster—Survivors of Death 1 expansion. Really fun mini to paint, painting gold trim on a blue base really is a delight. First time trying stippling on the cloak, definitely room to grow as I don’t love the result but will try again next time. Learned a lot about NMM as well. Constructive criticism always welcome, thanks!

Bullet dancer from Kingdom Death Monster

From the Survivors of Death 1 expansion. Skin tones were enjoyable to paint. I originally did a brighter yellow/orange OSL for the lanterns, but felt like it was too busy so I went with a darker blue but might’ve overcorrected and made it too dark.

I’m hoping to improve my painting so always open to constructive criticism and feedback, thanks!

Hospitalar from Kingdom Death Monster

Hospitalar model from Survivors of Death 1. Fun model to paint. I went with blue tinged metal to contrast the yellow-orange cloth, and green OSL to contrast the red accents. Shadows are mostly purples

Flower Knight from Kingdom Death Monster

Flower Knight boss from Kingdom Death. Learned a lot about NMM with this model. It actually looked pretty ugly at the beginning and I had a lot of doubt whether I should actually continue, but I’m glad I kept going

Dragon king from kingdom death monster

Finally got around to painting the Dragon King “mini“ from kingdom death. This is my favorite monster design from the game and I’ve been looking forward to painting it for a while. My second monster using an airbrush and it is an amazing tool. Started with a dark purple base and worked up layers to magenta, before adding green layers from high angles and then some red from below. Glaring gaps aside, I’m happy with the result and hope you enjoy!
