investing in flour -> infinite food
I bit the bullet and got flour, yeast, oil, and thrifted a couple casserole dishes. Me and my fiance are tight on money, but he works overtime and so I've taken on cooking when Im home and hes not. Saves money and hopefully our health.
Part of the struggle is always the time limit. But in thinking back to how my mom handled 2008, a huge part was cooking and baking from basic ingredients. No pretentious shit. Just stupid cheap bread, cakes, pizzas, and so on. So shout out to her for teaching me how to be comfortable making bread.
Id love to hear anything outside of bread you use flour and bread related products for (Pancakes are HIGH on my list to make next). I made a wheat and white mix loaf with pumpkin seeds and used $1.80 worth of ingredients earlier this week.
Ingredients:
- All Purpose Flour (1c)
- Whear Flour (2c)
- Activated Dry Yeast (1 tsp)
- Honey/Sugar/Agave (1-2 tbsp)
- Olive Oil (~3 tbsp)
- mushrooms
- Bratwurst/sausage
- cheese
- Pizza sauce (didn't make my own this time)
- salt and pepper
(Bonuses: garlic powder, Italien seasoning, Parmesan, red wine to reduce with mushrooms)
Instructions:
Let yeast come alive in a half cup of warm water (110 F) with a tablespoon or so of sweetener. make sure its frothing.
Combine Flour, oil, and yeast. Kneed on a floured surface for five minutes.
Let rise for an hour in an oiled bowl ideally in a warm place.
Stretch into (in my case) a small bread tin (1.5 Q). push up crusts along the sides and stab little fork holes all over so no bubbles.
Preheat oven to 450. Put crust in for 8 min.
Meanwhile, cut open one sausage. crumble and cook until browned (8ish min).
Cut mushrooms to even sizes and spread out in sausage grease. dont disturb them too much. add tiny bit of oil if they start to stick.
Bonus: once browned add 1 tbsp of red wine. let reduce for one minute. add garlic and thyme after its reduced. maximum yummy.
Take pizza crust out when just starting to brown, add pizza sauce, little bit of cheese, sausage and shrooms, and more cheese.
Stick back oven 12-15 min until cheese starts to get crispy.
wait 5-10 min.
Eat.
