Advice on lead walking
Rosie is 11 months old now and we are putting a lot of work into all aspects of training. She is progressing well at everything except loose lead walking…
We have a few local paths which we normally take her down for her first walk of the day and we can do 45 mins+ of fairly nice walking, with good engagement (plenty of positive reinforcement too). In these places she is familiar with, I am very happy with the progress and can imagine her getting even better.
However, if we take her anywhere new, even just further along the pathway she is familiar with, she turns into a totally different dog… her nose goes to the ground and she just sniffs everything, pulling all over the place. If I am able to get her attention back, it’s only for a brief second and then she is off again. It’s like all training we have done just goes out the window!
Do other people find this with their Labs in unfamiliar places? Any tips that may help?
