Considering Peru/South America
Hi! We’re very early on thinking about our honeymoon but ideally would like to go March/ April next year. We’re getting married next month and initially decided not to honeymoon but we’re changing our minds.
We’re thinking we might want to go for 10 days, and really like the idea of South America. I don’t know much about it but we’re considering any of the following
Peru (focussed on Machu Piccu)
Argentina (buenos aires and Patagonia)
Bolivia (salt lakes)
I think we’re leaning towards the Peru choice at the moment.
I think I need a bit of a reality check- can anyone let me know if this is wishful thinking?
We quite like a bit of exploring and travelling however we would also like to incorporate a couple of nights in a “luxury” place (read: honeymoon “romantic” and a bit more chill, not necessarily expensive)
My main concerns-
- Would we actually be giving ourselves enough time to enjoy what Peru has to offer? Every itinerary I’ve read is 2+ weeks. I understand this is also due to long travel times between hot spots?
I would obviously love to see Macchu Piccu but I’m happy to miss the incah trail 4 day hike- am I shooting myself in the foot here and would it really knock off enough time to make it worth it?
We’d like to do a small amount of travelling around. It seems you can either go north to the Amazon or south to Lake titicaca or maybe the salt mines? Would this also be a stretch? Has anyone got any other recommendations for a more concise timetable?
Budget. We’d be coming from the UK and would like to budget for £3/4k pp.
Are we way off the mark here? 😂
We don’t mind budget travelling and other budget stays, we just fancied treating ourselves to a couple of nights in a slightly fancier place for the occasion.if our budget is way off, would any of the other countries be slightly cheaper/ more feasible in terms of time restraints? We initially just wanted to go to South America so I am open to hearing about anything about the continent to be fair! We do like seeing landmarks and historical sites, and not too fussed about big modern cities (Rio doesn’t appeal to us for some reason)
We don’t want to be apart of a tour (like g-adventures)
Sorry this is a bit of a ramble, just getting a very initial feel for this idea and just want to check if it could be done or we’d be better off thinking of something else!
