Base turned 3 today

Three years in which Base didn't just grow, it also changed direction more than once

It started as a simple L2 and slowly became one of the biggest onchain ecosystems out there. We saw Onchain Summer, huge DeFi growth, thousands of builders, NFTs, Social, Creators, Base App, and now a stronger focus on payments and trading

But what's more interesting to me is the mistakes Base wasn't afraid to make

One of the biggest was Social and Creator Coins. An idea a lot of people doubted from the start, and one Jesse himself later admitted wasn't the right path

That's what makes Base different to me. You don't have to pretend everything was right from day one, You can try something, realize it didn't work, own the mistake, and change direction

I wasn't just watching from the sidelines either

I learned alongside it, got active in the community, made content, connected with builders and users, ran into Base App issues, picked up a thing or two about wallets and security, and yeah, got frustrated with Base more than once

Three years of Base isn't just three years of a blockchain growing for me. It's three years of trial and error, building, making mistakes, listening to the community, and building again

Happy 3rd Birthday, Base 🎉🟦

Still Day One

Adding Wallets in Base App

Looks like a lot of people got confused by the latest Base App update, so here's a quick guide.

In the old version of Base App, you could only have one Smart Wallet with a passkey.

Now, you can add multiple Smart Wallets.

Here's how:

Go to your profile, tap Add Wallet, then choose Create or Import. You can add a new or existing Smart Wallet using either your email or a passkey.

One thing that might confuse you is thinking you can no longer import a wallet with a seed phrase.

You still can.

Go to your profile, open Settings, turn off Base Mode, then tap Add / Manage Wallets. From there, you'll see the option to import a wallet using a seed phrase.

Another thing that catches people off guard is switching back to Smart Wallet mode.

You might go looking for the Base Mode button again, but it won't be there anymore.

Instead, scroll to the bottom and tap Your wallet got an upgrade. That'll take you back to your Smart Wallet.

If you've got any questions, drop them below

Base Code Misinterpretation

For the past few days, people on Twitter have been sharing screenshots of Base's GitHub code,

and this is a prime opportunity for scammers!

So why most people are misinterpreting what’s actually happening:

1️⃣ When the roadmap says “enshrined token standard”, it doesn’t mean a native network token is dropping soon.

2️⃣ Token mechanics are being moved directly into the protocol layer (L2 client) this is purely an infrastructure upgrade, not a token launch.

3️⃣ That Rust snippet everyone is sharing? It’s just sample/test code, not a deployment script for a network token.

4️⃣ The main goal: make token launches and transfers faster, cheaper, and smoother, even during high network volume.

- Be careful

scammers might try to take advantage of this hype! ⚠️

I’m sure many of you heard about the recent Ethereum wallet drain involving old wallets that apparently had no recent interaction.

Honestly, it surprised me.

I’ve seen people get hacked before through phishing, bad signatures, fake links, or interacting with the wrong contract.

But this kind of thing feels different.

So I started looking around to see what could possibly explain it, and I found this older article:

https://www.bitdefender.com/en-us/blog/hotforsecurity/mysterious-crypto-wallet-heist-drains-up-to-5-000-ethereum-from-og-wallets

The article is old, but what scared me was one of the possible explanations mentioned: some researchers considered the possibility that there may have been an issue with how certain seed phrases were generated, making them easier to guess or attack.

I’m not saying that’s confirmed.

But even thinking about that possibility immediately made me look at passkeys differently.

Before anything, I should say this: I actually like seed phrases.

I like the feeling of ownership they give. They feel like something crypto was built around from day one.

But if seed phrases are becoming a direct target, and if some wallet drains are not just simple phishing or user interaction mistakes, then it makes sense why people are starting to look for different models.

And honestly, I’m starting to understand more why Base App is focusing so much on passkeys.

So what do you think?

Do you think these drains could really be related to weak seed generation or seed phrase compromise?

Or do you think there’s another explanation?

And if you’re still a fan of seed phrases, do events like this make you question them at all?
