The last concert you went to. Did it change how you hear the album?

Saw a band live last year I'd been listening to casually. Never a die hard fan. Left a completely different person. Something about the room, the volume, the energy. Tracks I'd always skipped on the record became the best moments of the night. A great live show does that. Doesn't even matter if you're a fan going in. The right performance converts you on the spot. Has a concert ever changed how you hear an artist or made you a fan of someone you were indifferent about before?

Best thing I did as a manager was stop having opinions in the room

Used to walk into every meeting with a take already formed. Team would present options, I'd nod along and then steer toward what I already thought. Waste of everyone's time, including mine. Started showing up with questions instead. Genuinely didn't share my view until the team had fully landed somewhere. Two things happened. The decisions got better. And the people making them actually owned the outcome. Harder than it sounds when you've been doing the job longer than everyone else in the room.

Why does music from a specific era of your life feel like it was made specifically for you?

Not talking about nostalgia exactly.

More like there are certain albums I heard at a specific point in my life that feel like they were written about my situation. Even when objectively, they weren't anywhere close.

Heard a record last week I hadn't thought about in years. Lyrics I must have heard a hundred times suddenly meant something completely different. Same words, different person listening. I've never had that with a painting or a book the same way. Music does something else. Gets into a specific emotional frequency that other art forms don't quite reach.

Is it the combination of lyrics and sound hitting simultaneously? Is it that we're more emotionally raw at certain ages? Is it that music is just better at bypassing the analytical brain? Genuinely curious what people think is actually happening there. And whether anyone has had the reverse — a record that meant everything at 17 that you went back to and it just didn't land anymore.

Genuinely cannot tell you where they went.

Asked the team. Got answers like "I've just been… around more" and "I think I'm in more meetings?" We did not improve anything. We just redistributed confusion at a higher speed. Turns out "time saved" is only useful if you had a plan for the time. We did not have a plan for the time. Now I ask that before any pilot. What are we actually doing with this? If the answer is "we'll figure it out" we wait.

Anyone else running AI tools that are technically working and yet somehow nothing is better?
