Once upon a time

Once upon a time I used to live my life, with little dreams, loud laughter, and hope burning bright; but somewhere along the way, I lost that light, and now I just get through each day and call it alright. Technically I’m in my second year, but somehow I still feel like a stranger here, with no real friends, no one to call, no one who’d notice if I disappeared. My CGPA keeps falling, and I know I could study more, but I waste my days feeling guilty, then hate myself for wasting them some more. I look around and everyone seems to have someone a friend to laugh with, a girlfriend or boyfriend to hold when the day is done, while I’m sitting alone, watching life happen through a screen, pretending I’m fine when I know what I mean. Even my roommates are here, but they’re never really near, lost in endless reels while I’m drowning quietly in my own thoughts and fear. Once upon a time I had a life that felt like mine, but now I’m just trying to survive the nights and convince myself that someday, somehow, I’ll feel alive again.
