Going from RN to NP
Hi everyone, I’m wondering at what moment did you feel you were ready to go from RN to NP? What was your level of experience and confidence as a RN before you started NP school? I’ve been an RN for 8 years and worked in a variety of settings - LTACH, ICU, then transitioned to case manager in insurance, then acute care, and currently working as CM in outpatient neuro oncology. I feel like because I job hopped and took some career breaks, i’m not necessarily an expert in anything. I’m told i’m smart and should pursue NP but I don’t think i’m as smart as they think - I feel like I should know more being an RN for this long but I mainly just know how to be safe and have good assessment skills. I am curious about NP school but hesitant to take the jump as I really value work life balance and it seems that can vary depending on the speciality you work in. As a new NP, is it expected to start off in a general setting where you see a variety, such as urgent care, ED, or family practice? Or had anyone ever jumped straight into a specialty? I know I am all over the place, I’d really appreciate your thoughts!!
