Best places to look for fossils?

I live in Louisiana and i have a lot of forestry areas around me with not a ton of creek/rocky rivers around. I have a few small ones but does anyone know of good techniques i can use to help find fossils?

Can anyone tell me what this is?

Too me it kinda looks like some kinda vertebrae but also could just be my imagination and it’s just a regular old rock.
