What's it really like, being a CA insurance adjuster? Would any of you recommend it?
Looking for some CA adjusters that can speak to their experience.
I'm in northern California, 32 years old, just for the basics.
I have been a secretary/paralegal in a workers comp law office (applicant attorney side) for 11 years now, and I love my job. I'm good at it, my boss is my dad (the attorney) and my coworkers are great. I have an extremely flexible schedule, which is by-far the best part of my job.
All that being said, I just do not make enough and, while I get great bonuses, there is really no option for me to make more money here unless I become an attorney, which I am not interested in for various reasons.
My father retires in 3 years and it feels like a good time to move on. I have been looking into taking a CPWC course to get certified and hopefully get a job as a WC adjuster....Would any adjusters say this is a good idea? I have no college degree so I'm not sure if that would set me back in looking for employment, or even outright disqualify me. Are remote positions really as available as Google says they are? I know the job can be stressful due to the workload, but is it really that bad for an organized person? I don't find my workload now overwhelming, though it is quite a lot. I enjoy the field of Workers Comp. My biggest worry is the workload/hours as I can basically set my own schedule with my current job and I'm definitely spoiled by that.
Did anyone here switch from being on the applicant's side to being on the adjusters side? Was that a difficult switch for any of you? My father worked in WC defense for 20 years before starting this firm, so I've heard plenty of stories from his side but I am interested in more thoughts from an actual adjuster and not attorney. Thank you!
