How have you found the combat in Warsurge?

A newbie here with a background of playing OnePageRules.

With Warsurge, the mechanics seem quite different to what I'm used to.

Some notable ones to mention are:

  1. Melee or shooting are just Attacks in the Attack phase. In a way, not fighting straight back reminds me of Kings of War.

  2. You can shoot into/out of melee. There are penalties and exceptions, but depending on how strong the weapon is, the system doesn't seem to punish your units too hard for being charged. The attacker can't prevent their target from carrying on firing at other units.

  3. The core mechanics don't have a concept of unit 'skill level' or 'quality'. Unless you use perks like Aim/Accuracy, there's no 'to hit' rolls. Even if you use these perks the modifiers affect the attack rolls, so they feel a bit secondary to me and personally it feels to me that using these perks by default goes against the intended gameplay.

  4. No obvious morale mechanics.

These aren't necessarily bad in my eyes, just different and I'm still trying to get my head around how to design my armies.

I'd be interested to know how people have found playing Warsurge.
