My Idaho Flag Redesign

This simple design for Idaho is based on the 6 stripe pattern on the the state gemstone, the star garnet. Everyone uses that inspiration but I wanted to use a much more clean classic flag design instead of something weird and abstract. I decided on using the more burgundy shade of the stone instead of purple. This stat garnet design really resembles the Basque flag which is significant in Idaho as they have the most Basque people outside of Europe.

My Bismarck, ND Flag Redesign

Did my best to turn the Bismarck Coat of arms into a flag. The cloud line that I used is actually used in flags and heraldry. I think it is a good replacement and easier than trying to actually get leaves to look good.

Minneapolis and St. Paul Flag Redesigns

Not a 100% serious redesign. Heavily based on the flag of Arnhem, Netherlands but with a Minnesota loon instead of an eagle. It looks funny with a loon instead. The two heads represent them being the “Twin Cities” like my previous design.

My Washington State Flag Redesign

Simple design. Based on the coat of arms of the Diocese Seattle. The triangle represents Mt Rainier and obviously it’s based on the Washington Coat of Arms.

Definitely a joke design but also still better than the existing designs. Two heads to represent both Minneapolis and St. Paul.

This is my original redesign for Columbus plus some tweaks to the Cleveland People’s Flag and the Unchanged Flags for Good Cincinnati Flag. They all clearly needed a C on the flag and to be swallowtail burgees.

I included vision boards for Columbus and Cleveland. My issues with the Cleveland People’s Flag are that it needs to be a burgee and looks too much like the Chicago and Minnesota flag. The six pointed star inside a C looks very Chicago. I modified the reverse chevron to look more like the Cleveland coat of arms. What’s great about the Cleveland People’s flag is it reuses elements from the Ohio flag like the colors, big letter and chevron and uses them in a different way.

I visited Lexington this weekend for the first time and went to the Spring Meet at Keeneland. I was totally blown away with the whole city and it gave me inspiration for this redesign. The last two slides show the inspiration.

The checkerboard and stripes design comes from the Bremen, Germany flag and also the silks from Secretariat. The other pictures of inspiration are self explanatory more or less lol. The 15 squares in the checkerboard comes from Kentucky being the 15th State.
