The compass reads higher in the bag by a lot than with the compass itself, does this mean the bag had radium dust falling into it, or does is that bag of carbon trapping radon inside with it?

Just thought it was interesting.

My California Autunite “Chicken nugget” under a high quality UV light.

This ranges from 135-140K CPM from what I remember on a Ludlum 44-9. I didn’t pay any mind to dose rates at the time and can’t remember.

I mainly just enjoy finding uranium samples in the wild at various abandoned mine sites. I had a Ludlum-3 but the probe was utterly destroyed by a fall while hunting one day. I badly want another one, but is it overkill for what I’m using it for?

Trying to decide between the Ludlum-3 survey meter, or a the Better Geiger S2L or Radiacode 110 for hunting rocks.

Sorry for the talking, the video was originally for a friend. This piece registered 155-175K CPM on a Ludlum 3 with pancake probe, I’m wanting to grab a Radiacode to survey the piece and see what it’s really pumping out. All though it is still a primarily Alpha emitter.

Have a CDV-705 loudspeaker in its original box that was supposed to arrive with it, but USPS had other plans of course. I’ll consider getting it calibrated someday, but it’s not great for collecting samples or anything meaningful anymore except maybe finding beta/gamma contamination from fallout on your buddies before entering the vault. Love the old crackling of what id argue is the world’s most recognizable Geiger counter.

This particular model was apparently refurbished / retrofitted in the 1990s somewhere before making its way to a surplus market. As you can probably see, the check source was removed for i’m assuming repainting.

Screen captures from an urban explorer’s video aboard a Chinese submarine that had been apparently abandoned. Interesting design that I’ve never seen before, clearly modeled after the Soviet / Russian IP series of masks.
