Dauntless is a very good fanfic.

*Extremely* controversial, I know. But really, there does seem to be a massive difference between the quality of like, 3-5 best code geass fics and the rest of them. "Dauntless" is just...competent, idk. The chapters make sense, the troubles Lelouch faces from the administrative and political standpoint make sense.

Cool stuff. Best fanfic writers should be paid actual money. (Everyone should be happy and live forever, I know.)

Would you say that the sci-fi as a genre is *progressing*? That is, would it be accurate to say that contemporary authors build upon the previous important works rather than endlessly revisiting the same ideas/employing and percieving things through the same lenses?

*Some* of the "progress" is inevitable and trivial in the sense that times and trends change, newcoming authors represent new generations and different sensibilities but that's not exactly what I have in mind. I am talking more "continuity", "evolution", rather than simple "change".

I am asking this question because my intuitive answer would be "no" and I am kinda interested in seeing how others see it.

Curiously, it was recommended to me among a few other options, after asking Claude about books that have the iconic philip k dick paranoia vibe. Very soft sci fi, decently weird, beautifully written, atmospheric. Official seal of approaval from a guy on the internet.
