Does anyone have the beginning of a clue or any information about this item?

Hi! I made a post on another sub to get information on the wood, but I thought I would post here as well, as I thought maybe someone could have a more informed opinion.

This is a trunk I bought a few years ago because I liked the look of it. The person I bought it from didnt have any information on it and just wanted to get rid of it. I'm cleaning my house now and felt curious about it.

I’m looking for help identifying this item and would be grateful for any information you may have. (when could it have been made, what is this style called, which country could this be from, what type of wood this is, its possible value, etc). Anything really.

It was bought in south of France for 50 bucks (they asked for my price, and I offered that).

I included pictures of the front, the top, the sides, the interior, the "junction", the back, the hinge, and some mysterious hole with the piece of wood that goes in (its perfectly fitted)

Thank you so much in advance for anyone that will take the time to look!

Looking for help identifying any info about the wood there

Hello, I have this trunk laying around that I bought second hand on a whim years ago.
I don't know anything about it and I'm looking for any help identifying the type of wood this might be, or anything you could know about this style (when does it seem to be made, what country could this be from, anything really)

It seems to be stained pretty dark, and the room is not well lit, but there is some defect, or chipping on the inside. I took a close up of this area. I hope it's visible enough.

Also, considering the holes, do you think I should treat it still? It's been like this since I got it, and I havent done anything (thinking it was probably old, since before me it was in someone elses "modern" appartment and not sitting in a garage or something like that)

Thank you in advance!
