I built a free, open-source collection of 320 hands-on SQL, Python, Pandas & PySpark exercises

Hey everyone!

I’ve been working on a collection of hands-on Data Engineering exercises for technical interview preparation and self-study.
I recently decided to make the whole project public, hoping it might be useful to others preparing for interviews or looking to improve their practical skills.

Here’s what’s included:
80 SQL exercises (PostgreSQL)
80 Python exercises
80 Pandas exercises
80 PySpark exercises
Realistic sample datasets
Jupyter notebooks with questions and reference solutions
Validation and correctness checks
Setup instructions, including Java requirements for PySpark

The exercises cover topics like joins, aggregations, window functions, data transformations, data cleaning, and handling edge cases.
Everything runs locally, and I’ve included setup instructions in the README to help people get started.

GitHub: https://github.com/kursad-can/data-engineering-interview-practice

The repository is completely free and MIT-licensed. No signup, no paywall, and no paid content.
I’m sharing it because I know how much time interview preparation can take, and I hope it saves someone else a bit of that effort.
It’s my first time sharing this project publicly, so I’d genuinely appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or bug reports.
Hope it helps, and happy learning!

Laid Off From Big Tech 11 Months Ago, Still Interviewing but No Offers

Hi,

I was laid off from a big tech company around 1 year ago, joined too much interview with big tech companies and ended with below options after 4-5 rounds:

A. Ghosting
B. Systemic rejection email without feedback
C. Rejection with role closed or internal transfer

I’m wondering whether having an 11-month employment gap is considered a significant concern for Data Engineers in BC, Canada, or North America in general.

Also, for those who have experienced a similar period of unemployment, how did you address the gap on your resume?

I’d appreciate hearing about your experiences.

Thanks!
