Looking to DIY a Pergola - Advice for the Rim Joists / 6x6 Posts

I'm planning on building a 10x14 pergola that sits against the house but is not attached. I can avoid permits.

I need advice on how to handle the rim joists. My plan is double rim joists 2x10s on the "long" sides and using 2x10s 18" on center.

I am confused on how I should attach the double rim joist to the 6x6 posts. I am going to be doing vertical 6x6 posts bolted to sonotubes. The 6x6s will support the top part of the pergola, but will ultimately have a roof over it in the future.

How should I attach the double rim joist to the 6x6 without compromising it too much. I'm seeing some methods where I notch 3" out of the 6x6 and then through bolt them. I like this idea but I am worried about compromising the top part of the 6x6 when it comes to supporting the roof eventually.

Any thoughts?

Got My Blue Turd 89 YJ Back on the Trail

Over the winter I put this in the garage with the intent of putting new B pillars, changing the transmission (again) and regearing the axles (44s).

The drivers side ended up being way worse than I thought. Not rust but it was all tweaked from either rolling over or backing into a pole or something. I ended up cutting the whole side off and poorly welding in a new quarter panel.

Finally in June ... winter project ... I got around to regearing it. The front faught me big time. Someone attempted to regear it very poorly. Had to take it apart and adjust shims >20 times before I finally got a good pattern with backlash. The front got a locker. Rear did not.

Now to find spare parts and figuring out the steering setup.
