Hi! I’m looking to get some info/advice from working tattoo artists
I went to art school and majored in graphic design but I want to make a career change into tattooing. Considered majoring in illustration but was convinced it’s not a good career choice…probably true but the job market just sucks all around right now and I’m stuck in a job I hate.
I’m in Oregon so i’m saving up for tattoo school (it’s mandatory for licensing here unfortunately.) But before I spend all that money I’d love to know—how many people make a living tattooing full time? What does work life balance look like, and are people relying on part time work to supplement bills, insurance, etc.? I know this will vary a lot but just trying to poll a little bit. Especially for those living in expensive coastal cities like me lol…
Also, please don’t tell me “don’t even go there…” maybe it goes without saying but i’ve just gotten a lot of negativity on this topic. I know it’s not easy, I’m just trying to gather info for myself. Thanks everyone I appreciate your input ❤️🫶
