I think my distro hopping journey has led me here

Distro hopping has finally brought me to Soplos Linux, and honestly… I’m hoping this is where the journey ends 😂

It’s based on Debian Testing, so you get relatively modern packages while still keeping the stability I’m looking for. It’s not a super popular distro, but it does everything I need surprisingly well.

I also really like that it comes with some nice defaults out of the box. The overall setup gives me a bit of a Zorin OS vibe, but it feels lighter and less bloated. The default theme is actually pretty nice, and even the GRUB theme looks great. The Plymouth boot animation is also a nice touch.

Performance has been solid so far. I’m using GNOME, and RAM usage sits around 2.5 GB, which is perfectly fine for me.

But honestly, the best part is that it just… works.

Open the laptop → work → close it → sleep. 😂

For now, I’m just enjoying using Linux instead of constantly distro hopping.

Hopefully, I can finally stay here. 😅

Just enjoy Pop!_OS for what it is. Let the developers cook

I've been using Pop!_OS for quite a while now, and honestly, I think people should spend more time enjoying the distro instead of constantly asking:

"When is the next update?" "When is the next release?" "When will we get the upgrade?"

Pop!_OS 24.04 is supported until 2029. It's stable, polished, and perfectly capable for everyday use.

Whether you're a gamer, a daily desktop user, or a developer, Pop!_OS already does an excellent job. COSMIC is still under active development, but even in its current state it's more than usable for many people.

I genuinely believe COSMIC has the potential to become one of the best Linux desktop environments in the future. Great software takes time, and I'd rather see the team build it properly than rush features just to satisfy impatient users.

Also, it's worth remembering that Pop!_OS is free. The project is largely sustained by System76 and the people who support them. As users, we don't really have the right to demand that a free product be delivered faster on our schedule.

Let the developers work at their own pace. Quality is worth waiting for.

And just to be clear: I'm not part of the Pop!_OS or System76 team, and I have no affiliation with them. I'm simply someone who appreciates the philosophy behind this distribution and the way they approach software development.

اخيرا رجعت لـ Arch

I'm absolutely loving Omarch

Just wanted to say I'm really enjoying Omarchy 3.8.4 so far. It's smooth, looks great, and I love how customizable it is.

I've already tweaked my fonts, changed the boot logo, and personalized the login screen with my name – and everything survived the updates perfectly.

Now I'm just waiting for 4.0 to hit the stable channel. Gonna update through `Update > Omarchy` as soon as it drops.

Anyone else waiting for it?

Made my own desktop wallpaper with Claude 🎨🖤

Prompt:

Create a 4K desktop wallpaper (3840x2160) with this exact design:

- Primary background color: dark charcoal gradient based on #2D2C2F (from #242226 to #343237, diagonal)
- Top-right corner: a cluster of low-poly triangular facets in dark grey tones, with one facet filled in an orange-to-pink gradient (#FDB024 → #FE7A4C → #FF5C93), thin outlined edges
- Soft radial glow in the same orange-to-pink gradient, positioned bottom-right, blending into the dark background
- Bottom-left area contains:
  1. A decorative flourish line (thin curved swirl with a small dot at each end) in the orange-pink gradient, above the name
  2. The name "[NAME]" in large elegant italic serif font (Lora Italic, ~250px), filled with the orange-to-pink gradient, with a subtle white outline echo behind it for depth
  3. A matching decorative flourish line below the name
  4. Two small clean brand-style marks stacked underneath, each with a tiny geometric icon (triangle / hexagon outline) followed by small lowercase text: "pop!_os" and "system76", in light grey (#D8D5D3)
- Two small thin angle-bracket accents (< >) in the gradient color, flanking the name area on left and right, minimal and subtle
- Overall mood: minimal, elegant, dark, Pop!_OS / System76 inspired aesthetic

Replace [NAME] with the person's name.

After a long break, I’m back to Pop!_OS – and I’m genuinely impressed.

I used to run Pop!_OS a while ago, but stepped away due to some instability and delayed improvements. Recently, I decided to give it another shot, and I have to say – the distro has matured significantly.

Right after installation, I noticed how much smoother everything feels. The system is responsive, the UI is clean, and the overall experience is far more polished than what I remembered.

Hardware-wise, everything worked out of the box. My Intel i7-6600U, dual GPUs (AMD Radeon R7 M360 and Intel HD 520), and even battery management are all handled perfectly. Memory usage sits comfortably at around 4.4 GiB out of 15.5 GiB, and disk space is more than enough for my workflow.

What I appreciate the most is the balance between simplicity and flexibility. Pop!_OS doesn’t try to do too much, but it gives you all the tools you need without unnecessary complexity. It’s straightforward, intuitive, and just works.

I’m also glad to be back in the community. There’s something special about using a distro that feels like it was built with the user in mind – and Pop!_OS delivers that.

If you’ve been away for a while or hesitated to try it before, I’d say give it another look. The progress is real, and it’s honestly refreshing to see how far this distro has come.

Looking forward to spending more time with it and contributing to the community again.
