More a rant than anything. I went to my LFS yesterday mainly to look around at the fishies since I'm having a hard week, but I also am on the hunt for a rabbit snail. This shop is usually my go-to. They're family owned, have two locations (this is the secondary one) but both are long established and well renowned.

I was super excited to just look at the fish they had in since it's ever changing. There was a new employee in the fish room I haven't seen before, a middle aged man. Right in the beginning of my visit I noticed a platy with hole in the head. I pointed it out to the employee and he said he'd keep an eye on her. As I looked through tanks, it got worse and worse. Cyano, cloudy tanks with bacterial blooms, ich, hole in head, popeye, ammonia burns, swim bladder issues, moldy food, horrible tank mate selections (think a single cherry barb in with all male guppies - just shredding the poor things). It was horrible.

I was disgusted. I saw fish eating their dead and dying tank mates. A few months ago the normal fish room employee passed away unexpectedly, and since then their husbandry has gone downhill significantly. I haven't been to the main location but I hope they're still good.

I left the store very quickly feeling gross and sad. It's truly a reminder of the difference one person can make. Rip, anonymous fish man🐠
