Tips for North York

Hi all! I might be relocating to North York (near North York General Hospital) and I know close to nothing about the area. I’m looking to rent and be close enough to walk or take a short commute on public transit to the hospital area.

My partner is also commuting west to Mississauga and I’m trying to make their life as easy as possible too.

Any recommendations for condos, neighborhoods, or general areas? What’s it like? All insight is appreciated!!

Am I allergic to the sun??

Hi! I am 24F (~130 lbs). On 150mg Wellbutrin, 200mg magnesium bisglycinate and 10 mg Reactine (not daily). I have been allergy tested multiple times and it’s always come back negative despite having lots of skin sensitivity issues (eczema, random hives, face flushing).

This is the fourth time this rash has popped up on my hands - all related to sun exposure (happened before I started my meds). At first I thought it was chemical sunscreen but it happened again without it (albeit much more mildly). I’ve treated it with prescribed topical steroids. With consistent heat/sun exposure it will climb up my arms.

I don’t know if this is a photoallergy or toxicity but any insight would be appreciated. I live in a place with very hot, sunny summers and I’m looking for ways to prevent this as it is very painful and itchy.

Losing friends through applying

Just need to get this off my chest to a community who might understand 🥲

A close friend and I both applied to lots of programs (outside of med too) and I knew i wasn’t competitive for med due to some past unfortunate circumstances, but I wanted to do it anyway and at least apply once.

Naturally I reached out to see if they wanted to talk about the process/chat in general. I was super transparent about my position and let them know when I didn’t receive interviews to med etc.

They were pretty cold from the start and then i found out they’ve been lying the whole time about receiving interviews and moving through. They wouldn’t even tell me what schools they applied to! It’s so confusing because all I’ve wanted to be is supportive and communicate that I’m not here to compete.

On top of that, finding out that they have significantly embellished certain areas of their identity on their app is off putting as well. I’m not sure if I’m surprised though, the things I’ve heard about people lying on their applications/AI-ing everything seems to be insanely common.

If anyone has been through something similar I would love to hear what you did. Good luck to everyone awaiting an acceptance!

I'm starting to put together my final thesis manuscript for my MSc, and idk how people leave all of their writing to the last minute! It blows my mind.

I've seen people here and in my program say they waited until the month before to start from basically 0. I've had my draft going since I enrolled, and I'm still grinding all day to polish it. People amaze me.

Also, that post about hating your thesis as you approach your defence has never been more real rn lol.
