Ding Dang do over in Clearwater

These are the two attempts of Al doing his new verse for Ding Dang. This might be the first time they did the "do over" when Al flubs the lyrics. Al referring to the "day the guys didn't show up" is his backstory to how the song Good Time came to be.

Trying to find a missing signed guitar of Carl's at the Hard Rock Casino [story]

I was visiting my friend recently and we went to the Hard Rock Café in Miami. She had previously sent me a picture of Carl's guitar that was played at the 1980 Knebworth concert, so I wanted to see it for myself in person. Before I saw the guitar, I noticed there was a signed Best Of The Beach Boys record framed on a nearby pillar. The signatures looked pretty off, so I took a photo to verify later if they were legit.

Immediately after putting my phone away, the manager ran up to and said that he was an enormous Beach Boys fan and wasted no time to gush at me how much he loved Pet Sounds and Brian Wilson. I then told him that I loved Surf's Up and SMiLE and he stared back at me like I had grown an extra head. He then ushered me toward Carl's guitar and told me that when Brian came to play at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino, the employees tried to get him to sign another one of Carl's guitars.

I'm not sure why this Emperador guitar was not shown to Brian, but it could have been because it was at the Miami Hard Rock Café and not in the casino at the time.

Anyway, the manager said that Brian's handlers told the employees that Brian doesn't sign items anymore. The manager also pointed out that Brian was given the penthouse for the stay at the Hard Rock Hotel, but Brian never left his trailer. At all. Later at some point, Brian was somehow guided in front of the framed guitar. It was high up on the wall and he asked if they could bring it down for him to sign it. They did so, and the manager said, "I understand why they don't get Brian to sign stuff anymore. It's because his hands are so shaky now. His signature took up the whole guitar!"

The manager then mentioned when Mike Love's band (described as "The rest of the touring Beach Boys") came to perform, they were able to get Mike to sign the guitar as well. It was unclear if Al and Bruce signed too, but I would be surprised if they didn't. The manager then mentioned that he told Mike that he wished all the band members could reunite and Mike said that he wished that too.

I did try to chat more with the manager about the band, such as mentioning how the Knebworth concert was an amazing performance and how the guitar in front of us was used for it, but he kept looking confused by my comments. I even pulled up a photo of me with Al Jardine and he said, "Oh wow! That's you and Mike Love!"

I nearly passed out from the comment.

After I corrected him, he then blurted out that Sloop John B was an incredible song and then just kinda walked away.

The next day I went alone to the casino to find this guitar. I scanned the entire floor over and over again and asked every employee who would give me the time of day where this guitar was. They were very polite and did their best, but none of them could help me. That is, until I asked the security desk where it could be. I was told that the memorabilia rotates fairly regularly, so it's possible it wasn't being displayed currently.

Disappointed, I walked out of the casino emptyhanded, though I was one of the few individuals with the same amount of money as I arrived.

Anyway, I thought this was a funny experience to share with you all. If anyone is a local around the Seminole Hard Rock please check for the guitar if you can! I'd love to see which guitar it was!

Songs with at least 3 different versions of members lead singing?

I'm trying to compile a list of songs which has at least three versions of using a different lead singer using only official members.

This could be due to the live performances using a different lead singer than the studio recording (e.g. due to Brian not touring at the time), simply just a different studio recording with a new lead, or a bootleg recording with a new lead

===== Key =====

Original studio recording: O

Alternative/Outtake recording: A

Rerecorded studio recording: R

Live recording: L

Bootleg recording: B

==============

So far I have (in no particular order with members in alphabetical order):

Sloop John B - Al (R, L), Brian (O, L), Carl (L), Mike (R)

Sail On, Sailor: Blondie (O, L), Brian (L), Carl (L)

California Feelin' - Al (R), Brian (O, A), Carl (A)

Kokomo - Al (L), David (R), Mike (O, R (Español), L)

Don't Worry Baby - Al (L), Brian (O, L), Carl (L)

Ding Dang/Shortenin' Bread/etc. - Al (L), Brian (A, R, B), Carl and Mike (O, L)

Are these signatures legit?

These were at a Hard Rock, but I've never seen some of these signature quite like the ones on this album. Any thoughts?

Found Al's solo album in the big apple!

I actually didn't buy it since I already have one, so I left it for another fan to find. Crazy that they're still out there!

When did the lyrics to Help Me, Rhonda change, and why?

The earliest performances and studio recordings of Help Me, Rhonda have the lyrics as, "She was going to be my wife and I was going to be her man". At some point before the early 1970s, Al (or whoever else chose to sing lead), typically sang it as, "She was going to be my woman and I was going to be her man."

Was this lyric change ever addressed?
