I didn’t feel “more alert” or get better sleep when I stopped smoking

To give some background info, up until the last 2 years I smoked everyday for over a decade

The last 2 years I’ve had some small stints smoking again but they were short lived. The last year in particular I stopped smoking altogether

I know thc is bad for REM and whatnot but I found it way easier to get up in the morning when I smoked. I have an Oura smart ring that tracks my sleep. Although on paper I was getting more quality sleep (deep and rem) I wake up every morning feeling like I got ran over and have a tough time getting up whether I sleep 6 hours or 9

This last month I started hitting the pen again and although my sleep stats got worse it feels easy to wake up in the morning again

Aside from that people always mention how “you feel more motivated, have less brain fog and are more alert.” Didn’t notice any of that either

I know everyone’s different and I’m probably just an outlier but has anyone else here had the same experience?
