In India, a person can contest elections for Parliament, state assemblies, or local bodies as long as they meet constitutional and legal eligibility conditions such as age, citizenship, and not being disqualified under election laws. There is no minimum educational qualification requirement in the Constitution.

Democracy should allow any citizen to represent people, regardless of formal education.

Because, Democracy is based on representation and public mandate, not academic qualifications.

The ministry is primarily run by civil servants (IAS) and bureaucratic institutions to handle technical policy details.

Even Tamilnadu's eEx-CM & Ex-dep-CM has just purchased some humanities degree which is simply useless. They never attended college. UG degree in visual communication is no way related to politics & as useless as not having one.

Many DMK cadres ministers & advocates get acres of land by threatening poor land owners. They have even gone extent of k!lling & they didn't get death certificate yet as police has registered as missing case & didn't record the death.

There was a controversial post claiming that Amrita expanding to 10+ campuses and 7 engineering schools will reduce the value of the degree because admission (access) is becoming easier in those new campus. That argument reflects a classist gatekeeping mindset.

It is same old European colonial mindset that treated education, opportunity & institutions as things meant only for a privileged class. Same mindset which throw Mahatma Gandhi out of train in South Africa. Same racist mindset that invaded Africa & Asia.

More students getting access to any university / institute or subject/major will not weaken the value, prestige, or quality of the degree.

Don't consider Amrita or any degree as some luxury brand meant to be restricted to a small group. Universities across globe exist to educate, innovate, and contribute to the country’s progress in STEM and research. Obviously one university will be better than one.

Even IITs & Ivy League universities have online degree intakes, multiple campuses, etc. That has not destroyed their academic quality or reputation. Prestige comes from standards, research, faculty, student outcomes, and merit — not from limiting access.

Amrita still admits students based on merit, it's not 100% acceptance rate. Expanding opportunities for more capable students does not “devalue” the degree.

The idea that good education must remain inaccessible to preserve status is harmful. More quality institutions, online degrees from IITs & more access to top education benefit society as a whole.

Live and let live. Expanding education is aligned with the philosophy of Amrita University and its Chancellor. Amrita or any University in India will continue to expand with more programs across campuses.
