Constipation before treatment

I posted last week regarding my mom. Unfortunately, we have joined the club and her diagnosis of anal scc was confirmed. She is stage 3 with some spread to nearby lymph nodes. There are spots on her liver and lungs which the doctor believes are cysts but they’re going to do a PET scan Tuesday to be sure. The radiation oncologist said that she will do a course of chemoradiation with curative intent so we are holding onto this piece of hope...

The biggest issue right now is constipation. She is on hydromorphone for pain. She went today for CT mapping, and they couldn’t complete it because she is so backed up. She is experiencing significant discomfort. I’m so worried about how they will get the mapping done because we are desperate to get treatment started to shrink the dang tumor (which is 8cm!!).

We called the on call oncology nurse who recommended senna laxative so she is trying that tonight. 🤞🏻🙏🏻

Just looking for any stories of hope/insight of folks in similar situations. Any idea what would be the next step if the laxative doesn’t work?

We have the following appts early next week:
Abdominal MRI
NP for pain management
Medical oncologist re chemo
PET scan
Dietician
Repeat CT to try mapping again

Any insight?

Hi I am new here, and I hope it’s ok to post as we don’t yet have a diagnosis but everything is indicating one is imminent. My mom (74) had what she thought were hemmorroids in the summer. Family doctor suggested a few things to try but symptoms (discomfort , bleeding) didn’t improve. Abnormal fit test led to colonoscopy in early September. During this, they found an external growth. Colonoscopy was otherwise clear. Lymph nodes in groin and abdomen were not felt to be swollen. Biopsy and bloodwork done same day. Had MRI last week and CT this week and now waiting to receive results on Monday. She has lost significant weight and I am worried it has spread. Did anyone have similar presentation with weight loss but outcome wasn’t terminal? I am spiraling 😞
