Finally, signs of life!

I wanted to share thst I finally found tiny leaves on a tree that I thought might have been due to the cold. I am in CT in Zone 6B, so do not lose hope! The beauties are just waking up.

My other tree started a sucker last week and now has two. The first picture is to show the leaves on a tiny portion of the tree that I trimmed pretty aggressively last week since it was red.

The second is to show how many branches the could have chosen to wake up.

Moral of the story is that the trees are going to be just fine!😊

In the first picture is my newest tree. I was excited to see the new growth coming out at the bottom. I am in Fairfield County, CT (Zone 6b) and happy to see that the tree made it through the winter.

The second and third pictures are of my more established older tree. It has shown no signs of life yet although when I scraped the bark, it was green.

I have a few questions-

  1. Is the red colored wood dead?

  2. If it is dead, shall I cut it off now?

  3. I fertilized about a month ago with espoma organic fertilizer- the brown bag. Should I fertilize again now?

  4. Is there any other issue that you all can by looking at the tree that I do n ot know to ask about?

All your kind guidamce, suggestions, and comments are greatly appreciated.😊

Thank you in advance!
