Washing Machine Drain

Washing Machine Drain

Answered thanks guys!

Hi guys,

I've just moved into a new rental, the washing machine delivery guy said he couldnt install the drain pipe because the drain inlet opening is still sealed and needs to be drilled open first before connecting the pipe. As in pictures you can see the usual drain hole on the basin doesnt have a pipe connected underneath either so can't really put the drain pipe there.

Rental agent advised the previous tenant would've just left the pipe in the sink with the pipe holder keeping it in hooked over the side of the sink basin.

Is this the way to go as quick search suggests potential flooding if the pipe slips out during high speed spin cycle or something, but owner probably doesnt want to fork out 100+ to get a plumber to just come and drill a hole either, the house is less than 5 years old so unsure why the laundry set up is so weird...

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Melbourne Rental Current Situation

Hey everyone new here!

Me and my wife are looking to move out from melbourne CBD to the suburbs and have been looking all around the areas east and south east of melb, we’ve been viewing 10+ properties each week and sending quite a few applications through for a few weeks but seem to only get declines and no responses so far…

We are of Chinese background though I have a kiwi passport, both in our mid 30s and have combined household income of around $200k before tax and savings of $30k plus to show we can afford the rent comfortably, no issues with rental history and looking for properties with $600-$700 pw rent and have applied all over the east and south eastern suburbs like carnegie, ashwood, burwood, box hill, mentone, moorabbin etc…

Sometimes we would apply straight after the viewing is done and 2 days later get a decline with property leased out, sometimes the property continues to list but we just never hear back for our application at all.

Experience following up with rental agents have been nothing short of disappointing, unresponded emails texts and phone calls are generally expected.

We are just unsure why we cant secure a property, are we reaching for rentals outside of the preferred income multiples? Maybe we dont have enough savings? Or is there still some landlord preference to avoid chinese or asian applicants?

Any thoughts from anyone experiencing similar or tips on how to put ourselves in a better position to secure soemthing would be hugely welcome!
