Intarsia bull head I just finished

Just finished this intarsia bull head.

Used a mix of woods for the different tones and cut each piece separately before fitting it together. The horns and facial curves needed a bit of adjusting to get everything sitting right, especially with the grain direction.

I usually design my own scroll saw/intarsia pieces with the cutting and fit in mind before I start building them.

Pretty happy with how this one came out.

Tried keeping this deer intarsia pattern simple enough to actually finish

I’ve been messing around with simpler intarsia patterns lately.

This deer was my latest test. I tried to keep the main shapes bigger and avoid the tiny cuts that make a project annoying halfway through.

Still not sure where the sweet spot is though.

For anyone who does scroll saw or intarsia work, do you prefer cleaner/simple patterns, or more detailed ones even if they take a lot longer?
